In support of World Refugee Day, the Manitoba Association of Newcomer Serving Organizations (MANSO), and our member organizations and partners, will come together to mark World Refugee Day in Manitoba on Thursday, June 20, 2024.
MANSO and its member organizations bring together experts and stakeholders to discuss various aspects of refugee claimants' issues. Join us for an impactful and inspiring event on World Refugee Day as we highlight the resilience, strength, and talents of refugees around the world. This event will primarily centre on forcefully displaced individuals, highlighting the theme of Understanding and Supporting Refugee Claimants
The event will highlight opportunities to learn more about refugees including
- Jacinthe Léveillé- Assistant Director, Risk, Engagement and Protected Persons (REPP) in the Asylum Programs Division (APD)-Providing policies, procedures, and initiatives aimed at supporting refugee claimants and protection.
- Alastair Clark, immigration lawyer: providing insights to the current refugee claims, including the asylum process, rights of refugees, and challenges faced in navigating the system. Alastair has been working with immigrant communities for +20 years and he has been practising immigration law in Ontario and Manitoba since 2008.
- Daniel Swaka, ED, Peaceful Village- providing firsthand accounts of the refugee experience, the impacts of displacement on individuals and communities, and the importance of community support.
- Felicien Rubayita, representative from newcomer service providers: sharing on-the-ground experiences of assisting refugee claimants, including challenges faced during settlement and integration processes, and the importance of community support.
- Anne Woolger, refugee advocate:: providing a firsthand account of the refugee experience, including reasons for seeking asylum, challenges encountered during the journey, and the process of rebuilding life in a new country.

Together, let's honor the journeys and contributions of refugees and work towards a more inclusive and compassionate world.
