WCB Presents Injured Workers Rights: Workplace Safety and Reporting Workplace Injuries
About WCB:
The Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba (WCB) is an employer-funded insurance system that provides benefits and services to workers who suffer a workplace injury or illness. Benefits and services include coverage for healthcare treatment, prescriptions, and income replacement when workers miss time from work due to a workplace injury.
Event Description:
All people in Manitoba regardless of their immigration status have the right to a safe workplace and the right to report an injury to WCB if they are hurt at work. This session will provide basic information about workers safety rights in Manitoba, what the WCB is, how to report an injury, benefits and entitlements for injured workers, and what you can do if a worker is punished by their employer for reporting an injury or safety concern in their workplace. Information is formatted to support easy re-distribution to staff, clients, and the communities member organizations serve. Time will be provided to answer questions.
Presenter:
Emily Gerbrandt (she/her) is a Compliance Specialist at the Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba (WCB) and a Ph.D. Candidate in Sociology & Criminology. She works to prevent and detect interference with injured worker's rights and is passionate about educating communities about their health and safety rights in the workplace.
