Intro to Family Law

07 Feb 2022
10:00am - 11:30am CST

Description: The focus of the Family Law workshop is to educate settlement staff about family law including marriage, divorce, and child custody in Manitoba and Canadian law. It is important for settlement service providers to understand this legal information as they support the most marginalized community groups and help their clients with information, understanding of the Family Law process, and insights on this topic.

This workshop is designed to provide legal information that will answer questions such as:

  • Marriage

  • Divorce

  • Child Custody

  • Child support

  • Legitimation

  • Name change

Who should attend?:  This workshop is recommended for any  frontline staff, middle management or directors of Newcomer Serving Organizations who have questions about this topic.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants are able to understand legal information about Family Law on marriage, divorce, child custody and child support, legitimation (declaration of parentage), and name change.
  • Participants know where to refer their clients if they have questions about any of these topics that the SPO cannot answer.
  • Participants learn about useful resources and tools they can use to help their clients.

Presenter: Robynne Kazina practices exclusively in the area of family law as a partner at Taylor McCaffrey LLP in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She graduated from the University of Toronto law school in 2005.
