This workshop will provide an overview of government relations and hands-on work toward a strategy for an organization. The workshop will also focus on developing a government relations strategy for organizations with an existing relationship with government(s) or wanting to build a relationship to help facilitate goals and objectives.

Having worked both inside and outside government at municipal, provincial and federal levels, the presenter can help to position your concerns within the government agenda, build your case and convey it effectively to those who matter.

 

Who Should Attend? This workshop is recommended for any board members, senior management, or directors of Newcomer Serving Organizations as well as anyone who wishes to gain a better understanding of these topics, including not-for-profit organizations or individuals who work with government on a regular basis.

 

Workshop Objectives

  • Participants have a better idea of how to align their organizational structure with government priorities
  • Participants learn about strategies for communicating with different levels of the government
  • Participants have a better idea of how best to advocate for funding or support for your organization

 

Presenter:  Gord Mackintosh, Counsel (https://counselpa.com/)

For over 16 years, Gord held several roles in the Manitoba cabinet including time serving as Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Minister of Family Services and Housing, Minister of Conservation and Water Stewardship, Government House Leader, Minister responsible for Constitutional Affairs, Minister charged with the administration of the Liquor Control Act and Minister charged with the administration of The Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation Act. Prior to entering politics, Gord worked for the Canadian Human Rights Commission and Manitoba Human Rights Commission. He also served as Deputy Clerk of the Manitoba Legislature.
