West Central Women's Resource Centre - Neighbourhood Immigrant Settlement Services
About West Central Women's Resource Centre - Neighbourhood Immigrant Settlement Services
West Central Women’s Resource Centre provides settlement services to permanent residents living in the West Central Community. Our Neighbourhood Immigrant Settlement Workers (NISWs) assist newcomers by providing information, referrals and support in order to help them increase access to community and government services, enhance community engagement and build capacity to navigate Canadian systems (learning English or French, employment, housing, child care, education, transportation, health, recreation, important documents, and more). Some of the group programs we offer are: English Conversation Circles, Sewing Circle and Group Information Workshops.
In addition we have a new program called Healing Together: Fostering Safe, Strong Families. This program aims to enhance newcomer well-being with an emphasis on preventing and healing from intimate partner violence (IPV) and experiences of post conflict gender based violence. We are working with community members and other organizations doing similar work to ensure this program responds to the needs of the community in the most appropriate manner. This project offers 1-to-1 counselling and a 10 week women’s wellness group.
