About Norwest Co-op Community Health

NorWest Co-op Community Health provides a wide range of health, counselling, youth, early years, community development, food security, and family violence prevention services across Winnipeg. Our programs are trauma-informed, culturally humble, harm-reduction oriented, and rooted in community connection.

 

Service areas include primary care and walk-in clinics, youth mental health and outreach, community resource centres and food security programs, early years supports, housing and system navigation.

FAMILY VIOLENCE AND PREVENTION PROGRAMS

Intake: 204-915-5168

 

Women’s Counselling

Overview: Supportive counselling and case management for all women, women-identifying, gender-diverse, and Two-Spirit/2SLGBTQ+ individuals impacted by family or relationship violence. Services include safety planning, crisis support, home visits, advocacy, and system navigation.

Eligibility and Access: Individuals impacted by family or relationship violence. Access is based on safety and clinical need. Self-referrals, partner referrals, and community referrals accepted.

 

Caring Dads

Overview: A fathering program focused on accountability, child-centred parenting, and building safer relationships. Includes group-based reflection and skill development.

Eligibility and Access: Fathers and caregivers who have used, or are at risk of using, family violence and who have caregiving contact with children. Self, justice, CFS, partner, and community referrals accepted.

 

Legal Information, Navigation and Referral

Overview: Provides plain-language family law information (not legal advice), safety planning, navigation support, and system advocacy.

Eligibility and Access: People impacted by family or relationship violence who require legal information or navigation. Also available to newcomers and individuals facing barriers to other legal pathways due to immigration status, eligibility restrictions, income thresholds, language needs, or lack of culturally safe options. Access through Family Violence Intake.

 

Child and Youth Counselling

Overview: Counselling for children and youth who have experienced or witnessed family violence, with emotional support, safety planning, skill building, and caregiver involvement.

Eligibility and Access: Children and youth impacted by family violence. Referrals through Family Violence Intake. Caregiver consent required where applicable.

 

Project CHOICES

Overview: Brief intervention and counselling related to alcohol use and pregnancy planning, with a focus on reducing alcohol-related risks and supporting reproductive wellness.

Eligibility and Access: Individuals who could become pregnant or are considering pregnancy and who want support related to alcohol use. Self and partner referrals accepted.

 

InSight Program

Overview: Intensive outreach, case management, and harm-reduction support for pregnant or parenting individuals using substances. Includes system navigation, parenting support, and advocacy.

Eligibility and Access: Pregnant or parenting individuals using substances. Voluntary participation. Self and community referrals accepted.

 

YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH AND COMMUNITY SUPPORTS

Youth Line: 204-940-3070

 

YESS – Youth Empowerment Support Services

Overview: Peer-led youth programming including cultural activities, group support, mentorship, safe spaces, and system navigation.

Eligibility and Access: Youth and young adults seeking peer-based support. Drop-in or referred access.

 

HUDDLE NorWest – 945 Notre Dame

Overview: Walk-in mental health and substance-use supports for youth ages 12 to 29. Includes counselling, harm reduction, peer support, and groups.

Eligibility and Access: Youth ages 12 to 29. Walk-in and booked appointments accepted.

 

Intervention Outreach Team (IOT)

Overview: Mobile outreach team providing relationship-based support, basic needs assistance, harm-reduction supplies, and system navigation in partnership with provincial youth services.

Eligibility and Access: Youth and young adults needing mobile, flexible support within the service area. Not referral dependent; connects through outreach and community contact.

 

PRIMARY CARE, WALK-IN AND FOOT CARE

Main Line: 204-938-5900

 

Primary Care and Foot Care – 785 Keewatin

Overview: Full-scope primary care including physicians, nurse practitioners, nursing, chronic disease management, diabetes education, immunizations, and Foot Care Nursing.

Eligibility and Access: Community members seeking primary care. Call to confirm registration or appointment options.

 

Walk-In Connected Care (WICC) – 785 Keewatin

Overview: Same-day, non-emergent assessment and treatment provided by an interdisciplinary team.

Eligibility and Access: Walk-in during posted hours for non-emergent health concerns.

 

Notre Dame Walk-In Primary Care Support – Thursdays

Overview: Same-day, non-emergent primary care supports at 945 Notre Dame. Does not prescribe or refill narcotics or benzodiazepines.

Eligibility and Access: Walk-in from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., closed from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Contact 204-619-5425.

 

COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTRES, CFC, EARLY YEARS AND HOUSING

Main Line: 204-938-5900

 

Community Resource Centres

Overview: Community hubs offering food security supports, system navigation, computer and phone access, cultural programming, youth drop-ins, senior programs, and harm-reduction supports.

Eligibility and Access: Open to community members. Some programs have age-specific or program-specific criteria.

 

NorWest Co-op Community Food Centre (CFC)

Overview: Community meals, community kitchens, food markets, food literacy programs, and nutrition-focused initiatives.

Eligibility and Access: Open to all community members.

 

Early Years – Bright Starts Baby Steps

Overview: Early childhood development programming, parent-child engagement, and family supports.

Eligibility and Access: Parents and caregivers with young children. Age criteria apply depending on the program.

 

Housing First and Housing Supports

Overview: Housing stabilization supports, intensive case management, basic needs supports, system navigation, and landlord coordination.

Eligibility and Access: Individuals experiencing homelessness or significant housing instability. Eligibility varies by program stream.
