About Holy Names House of Peace
Holy Names House of Peace, a non profit organization founded in 2004, is an intercultural, life affirming community that welcomes all. Located in the heart of the City, the House of Peace upholds the vision of a world of justice, tenderness and communion.
Within the House of Peace is a safe and supportive home for 19 'Neighbours'; newcomer, refugee and immigrant women in transition. These women come from various countries and various faith backgrounds. They stay up to two years and in those two years, the House of Peace helps them with language, jobs and offers a unique living situation that encourages independence and interdependence. Neighbours is based on mutual acceptance, respect and cooperation.
Holy Names House of Peace is open 350 days of the year on an average of 13 hours a day. Approximately 150 people from all areas of the city come each day: professionals, labourers, business men, seniors and youth, street people. They come to participate in a variety of programs, to get out of the cold or just talk to someone. 78% of the people are immigrants and visible minorities.
