Products & Services
Newcomer Nutrition Program: A multi-week program where newcomers are encouraged to continue with their traditional diet as much as desired and supported as they navigate a new food environment. Topics include food safety, general heathy eating, reading food package labels, shopping on a budget, and a grocery store tour. Newcomers have the opportunity to cook and eat recipes together with foods that are easy to find in most grocery stores in Canada and to celebrate their traditional foods.
Newcomer Nutrition Mentor Program: A training program for newcomers to Canada who hold a formal education in nutrition from their home country or from Canada. Mentors are trained to facilitate community nutrition programs and act as mentors to newcomers who may have experienced similar barriers adapting to a new food environment. Program is currently offered bi-annually.
Newcomer Food & Nutrition Network: Food Matters Manitoba chairs the Newcomer Food & Nutrition Network with 20+ member organizations in order to share resources and best practices and to increase collaboration and communication between organizations working toward healthy food for all newcomers in Winnipeg.
