About EDGE Skills Centre
EDGE Skills Centre, Inc. is dedicated to serving the language, educational and employment needs of adults in Winnipeg. Our full-service, community-based programs help our clients improve their quality of life through ongoing support, training, and referrals to other service agencies. Programs include: EDGE Career, EDGE Employment Essentials, EDGE ESL, EDGE Literacy & Community Computer Programs.
Products & Services
ESL Program:
EDGE ESL is a service provider for adult newcomers who reside in the St. Vital and St. Boniface areas. We provide LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) and follow the CLB and PBLA guidelines. Our daytime classes are part-time, Monday to Friday between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Our evening classes run twice a week either Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00 to 9:30 PM. Childcare for Newcomer Children is available on-site for the daytime program. Career Program:
EDGE Career is a full-time employment preparation and job skills training program. The program includes essential skills, in-depth assessment, life and employability skills training, employment training, and labour market research. Academic upgrading, specific skills, and on the job training may also be part of this individualized program. Work experience and job placement is included. The one-year, full-time program operates Monday-Thursday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Candidates may access short-term vocational training or work experience leading to long-term, sustainable employment. EDGE Employment Essentials
EDGE Employment Essentials helps permanent residents and refugees with lower-level language skills find employment by helping clients overcome/manage barriers and by matching client’s skills to work opportunities. Literacy Program:
EDGE Literacy is a registered adult literacy program that provides academic upgrading mainly in the areas of English and Math following the stages of Literacy framework developed by the province of Manitoba. Classes are available at all 3 stages of Literacy as well as a beginner class (foundation skills). Classes are held from September to late May each year and we have continuous intake from September through March. Classes are scheduled Monday – Thursday, both morning and afternoon.
