Plain Language Workshop

Join us for an online workshop on developing Plain Language resources. Learn how you can apply principles of plain language and clear design to written documents (from social media posts to guidebooks), and collaborate with your peers to improve the accessibility of your written materials. After completing the workshop, you will know the basic theory of plain language and clear design, and feel more confident to apply those theories to the materials you develop for your clients.

Goals/objectives:

  • Learn the history of Plain Language and relevance to today

  • Gain awareness of why Plain Language is important

  • Identify the basics of Plain Language and Clear Design

  • Practice developing materials and receive feedback

Target audience: This workshop is for anyone who develops written materials and wants those materials to be accessible and easily understood by their clients. This is an opportunity to work towards clearer communication by removing common barriers in written documents.

 

Facilitators: 

  • Melissa Germain (Opportunities for Employment)
  • Corinna Loewen (A&O: Support Services for Older Adults)

Melissa Germain and Corrina Loewen have worked in a wide variety of roles in the Manitoba settlement sector for more than 20 years: teaching newcomers, developing programs and curriculum, and training new teachers. Melissa is currently a Facilitator at Opportunities for Employment and Corrina is an ESL teacher with A&O: Support Services for Older Adults. 

Melissa and Corrina are passionate about making Plain Language resources accessible to everyone through their interactive training, customized workshops, and consultations.
