Are you interested in learning how to navigate the Canadian legal system? Join our guest speaker, lawyer Michael Dyck, for the session ‘Navigating the Legal System’.
This workshop will provide information on:
- how to navigate the Canadian legal system,
- how the justice system works, how to access legal services,
- how those laws impact your everyday life,
- where your rights and responsibilities come from, and
- what you can do to resolve disputes.
Who should attend? This workshop is intended for any frontline staff, middle management or directors of newcomer serving organizations, as well as anyone who wishes to gain a better understanding of the Canadian legal system.

Speaker: Michael Dyck is a criminal defence lawyer in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Michael was born and raised in Steinbach, Manitoba, attended St. John’s-Ravenscourt School in Winnipeg, and lived at the school as part of the boarding program.
Michael has had an interest in criminal law since he was young. After he graduated in 2005, he attended the University of Manitoba and completed his Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Sociology and a minor in Psychology. He won the Gold Medal in 2008 for having the highest overall GPA of any student in the Bachelor of Arts (General) program. Michael started law school in the fall of 2008 at Robson Hall at the University of Manitoba, and graduated in 2011 with a Juris Doctor and received his Call to the Bar in 2012. After dreaming of becoming a lawyer since grade 9, it finally happened. He is passionate about providing clients with superior service and detailed legal information.
