Occupational Health Centre
About Occupational Health Centre
Occupational Health Centre (OHC) is a community health centre focused on workers' health. OHC works with over 20 newcomer communities to provide information and training on workers' health and safety in their own languages. OHC also works with and supports migrant workers in Manitoba. Workers with work-related health concerns can see a doctor at OHC who specializes in occupational health, no referral necessary. Counselling is also available for newcomer workers dealing with work-related health issues.
Products & Services
The Occupational Health Centre works with a variety of newcomer cultural communities in Manitoba to increase their capacity around workplace health and safety through a Train the Trainer Program. Community trainers trained by OHC provide workshops and individual assistance for workers in their first languages. This community development program is funded through Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship Canada and is available to permanent residents. Through this program, OHC also provides short term counselling for newcomers experiencing a work-related injury or illness.
OHC also delivers special programs and works with newcomer and migrant workers in the province's meat and poultry processing plants, as well as with nail salon workers from the Vietnamese community.
OHC's medical, information, and educational programming are available free of charge to all in Manitoba and funded through the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.
