About Manitoba Nurses Union (Canadian Culture & Communication for Nurses)

Since 2003, The Manitoba Nurses Union (MNU) has been offering the Canadian Culture & Communication for Nurses program.  MNU partners with Professional English Group Canada to deliver online programming for Internationally Educated Nurses across Canada.  We have a variety of free online programs for Internationally Educated Nurses & Health Professionals to gain communication skills and cultural knowledge which are needed to enter and integrate successfully into the Canadian health care system. CELBAN preparation is integrated throughout the programs.  Individuals can participate from any community across Canada with an internet connection. Our services impact language & employment outcomes.

Online Language Training for Nurses

There are four modules that are each designed to be completed during a 12-week session.

Module 1 – Introduction to Canadian Healthcare Communication (CLB 6/7)

Module 2 –  Intermediate Canadian Healthcare Communication  (CLB 7/8)

Module 3/4 – Advanced Canadian Healthcare Communication (CLB 8+)

Pronunciation for Healthcare professionals. (CLB 7+)

Webinars

In addition to other programming, individuals can also participate in our webinars.  On average we host 2 webinars a month. Health care webinars focus on important topics that Internationally Educated Health professionals need to understand when practicing in Canada.  Topics such as Patient Centred Care, Taking a patient history, Documentation, Shift to Shift reports, Critical Thinking Skills, Physical Health Assessments, Dementia, Long Term Care, Ethics, Indigenous Awareness are examples of webinars that have been done. 

Internationally Educated Nurse Navigator Services

This service helps internationally educated nurses understand the process that is required to become a licensed Nurse in Manitoba. NNAS (National Nursing Assessment Service) and Nursing Regulators registration process are explained. The Nurse Navigators help guide Internationally Educated Nurses to make a plan and to identify nursing related jobs for the short term or as career alternatives.
